NEW DELHI -- There might be a terror strike in India by the Islamic State, or ISIS, targeting Turkish nationals and interests. An India Today report says that the Intelligence Bureau has sounded an alert on June 1 to all state police forces across the country. This is the first time such an alert has been issued.

While there has been reports earlier of ISIS sympathisers active in India, and even of large number of Indian recruits to the terror group, India has not been under threat of an attack. India banned the Islamic State last year after arresting a Bengaluru-based engineer who had been running a Twitter account sympathising with the terror group's activities. Last month, an Indian national who escaped persecution by ISIS claimed that the terror group has killed 39 Indian hostages.

The possibility of a strike comes after developments in Syria which has out Turkish Missions and interests under threat in countries across the globe. The alert specifically calls for increased security to Turkish interests. India will be working with international intelligence agencies to counter the threat, and all airports are on alert.
