India reiterated its inglorious epithet as one of the most unsafe places for women after a 46-year-old Californian complained of being raped in a Dharamsala market earlier this week.
According to a Times Of India report, a case under IPC's Section 376 (rape) has been registered against unknown persons subsequent to a complaint filed on Wednesday.
"I had gone shopping at a market on September 14 when two people attacked me from behind," the woman said in her complaint. The accused then allegedly took her to an isolated spot after she lost consciousness and raped her.
The woman had come to India from California a week ago.
However, the police found her statements confusing, reports India Today.
According to this version, the guest house's CCTV footage shows the woman left her hotel at 8.26 PM and returned within 19 minutes. The CCTV however has no footage showing the woman leaving the hotel after 8.45 PM. The woman, in her complaint, has said that the incident took place at 11 PM.
