RANGIYA, Assam -- A newly married woman has allegedly been gang raped and her husband severely beaten up by seven persons in Assam's Kamrup district, police said today.
A woman, hailing from neighbouring Baksa district, came with her husband to visit a relative in Kekenikuchi area of Kamrup (Rural) district last evening when her husband was severely beaten and the woman taken to a nearby jungle where she was repeatedly raped by the seven persons last night, Kamrup (Rural) Superintendent of Police Indrani Barua said.
An FIR was filed with the police who arrested three of the accused, including a relative, while a search operation has been launched to nab the remaining four who are absconding.
Those arrested include Pankaj Das, the woman's relative, Tilak Das and Nareshwar Das while the absconding have been identified as Sonmoni Das, Prabhat Das, Satish Das and Dipak Das.
The condition of the woman was stated to be critical and she has been shifted to Guwahati Medical College Hospital.
