Virender Sehwag announced his retirement from all forms of international cricket and the Indian Premier League on Tuesday. He made the announcement via Twitter.

With this, he puts to rest the frenzied, day-long speculations around his career. Earlier in the day, he had denied reports of retirement and told The Indian Express that he had not yet retired.

Even as he quit, in the letter he put out on Twitter, he referred to the earlier reports of his retirement as 'exaggerated'.

He then expressed his love for the Indian team and his gratitude to his team mates, opponents and managers.

"Cricket has been my life and continues to be so. Playing for India has been a memorable journey and I tried to make it more memorable for my teammates and the Indian cricket fans," he wrote.

He then went ahead and thanked the BCCI for being a framework of support. "The work that the BCCI does at such a scale is phenomenal and it has had some fine administrators over the years who have led the Board in developing the game, appreciating the contribution of players and have brought a lot of benefit to the players," he wrote.

Sehwag's celeb fans took to Twitter to wish him well.

According to India Today, the right-hand opening batsmen is in Dubai at present signing up for the Master's Champions League, a T20 league that comprises retired cricketers.
