NEW DELHI -- Moody’s Analytics has rebuffed the central government's claim that its report India Outlook: Searching for Potential, which advises Prime Minister Narendra Modi to rein in Bharatiya Janaya Party leader from making offensive statements, is the "personal opinion of a Junior Associate Economist."
"The report was published by and is the view of Moody’s Analytics as part of its economic outlook series. The report included a section observing political developments in the context of their potential economic impact, and did not advocate any political agenda or perspective,” a spokesperson from Moody’s Analytics said in an email response to The Hindu.
In a press release on Wednesday, the Modi government said, "It is with regret the Government of India notes the irresponsible and distorted reporting by certain sections of the Indian media on what was the personal opinion of a Junior Associate Economist employed with Moody's Analytics."
Last week, Moody’s Analytics, the research unit of Moody’s Corporation, said that communal strife in India, and the offensive remarks made by BJP leaders, is a huge turn off for the financial community.
Advising the Prime Minister to rein in BJP leaders, the report said, "Modi must keep his members in check or risk losing domestic and global credibility."

“While Modi has largely distanced himself from the nationalist gibes, the belligerent provocation of various Indian minorities has raised ethnic tensions. Along with a possible increase in violence, the government will face stiffer opposition in the upper house as debate turns away from economic policy. Modi must keep his members in check or risk losing domestic and global credibility." - Moody’s Analytics report.
