Today the world is posed with many challenges. But out of all the challenges that our humanity has to face, the biggest and most fearsome of the lot is undoubtedly the uncertainty for the energy sector. Secure, reliable, affordable, clean and equitable energy supply is fundamental to global economic growth and human development and presents a massive challenge for all of us. The ever increasing demand of energy has led to greater pressure to further develop and transform the energy system immensely.

It’s exciting times in the renewable energy sector with a new innovation almost every day. On a daily basis we hear of new developments and unprecedented investment in this sector. All for finding a solution, a means of alternative source of energy that is affordable, clean and more importantly reliable. According to the National Renewable Energy Lab, Renewable electricity generation from technologies that are commercially available today, in combination with a more flexible electric system, is more than adequate to supply 80% of total U.S. electricity generation in 2050.

Over the past two hundred years humans have managed to do more damage to the environment through exorbitant use of fossil fuels. Acid rains and Ozone layer depletion have affected our fauna, trees, and water systems. Today we often see people wear masks as a result of the increased pollution in our atmosphere. Incidents of respiratory related illnesses as well as non-smoking related lung cancer have increased with a strong correlation to the polluted atmosphere. It is vital that we find cleaner fuel resources to replace fossil fuels. Alternative energy possibilities include but are not limited to hydro energy produced by water movement, wind energy harnessed from moving air, thermal energy found in underground heated systems, and plant related fuels.

One such solution is being given shape at Stage 2 Innovation and is called ‘Limitless Energy’. At Stage 2, they believe the answer to our worries lie right under our feet- the core of the earth. Using cables made of grapheme, their teams hope to transmit the heat at the Earth’s core to produce clean energy that’s enough to power the world.

Billions in Change is a movement founded by billionaire philanthropist Manoj Bhargava, creator of 5-hour Energy. Along with its accompanying film with the same name, Billions in Change seeks to solve the world's most pressing problems by promoting the adoption of inventions that can improve humanity.
