Noted fusion artist and playback singer Remo Fernandes, summoned by police for allegedly allegedly threatening a minor girl who was hit by his son's car, has surrendered his Indian citizenship and became a Portuguese national, police said today.

"We have confirmed that Remo has already surrendered his Indian passport and taken Portuguese nationality due to which we will have to issue him summons through the embassy," police inspector Jivba Dalvi told PTI today.

The officer said police did not know when did Remo surrender his Indian citizenship as he is currently touring Europe.

He said police have already submitted the summons to the Foreigner Regional Registration Office (FRRO) which will forward it to the embassy.

Police had yesterday issued another summons to Remo and Jonah as they failed to appear before the Agassaim police station in response to first summons issues earlier, on account of his Europe trip.

Remo was told to appear before the investigating officer tomorrow at 4 PM and his son at 10 AM.

The 62-year-old singer has been accused of threatening the girl at the state-run Goa Medical College and Hospital on December 3, where she is undergoing treatment after she was allegedly knocked down by a vehicle driven by his son Jonah.

According to police, the incident occurred on December 2 when the girl was walking towards Old Goa to complete her vow to St Francis Xavier when she was allegedly hit by Jonah's car.

Jonah was booked for rash driving.

The singer has dismissed the charge against him as fabricated.
