Sakshi Khanna, son of actor and BJP politician Vinod Khanna, is all set to be the newest star kid on the block.
According to a Mumbai Mirror report, the 24-year-old will be making his debut in ace casting director Mukesh Chhabra's directorial debut, reportedly slated to roll in February. Chhabra has cast for films such as Anurag Kashyap's Gangs Of Wasseypur (2012) films, Abhishek Kapoor's Kai Po Che (2013), and Vishal Bhardwaj's Haider (2014). Over the past three years, he has developed a reputation for discovering new talents, spot-on casting decisions, and eliciting the best from his actors through demanding workshops.
The film is being produced by Sanjay Leela Bhansali, whom Khanna assisted on the recently released Bajirao Mastani, having previously also assisted Milan Luthria in Once Upon A Time In Mumbaai (2010). The young actor has reportedly been honing his acting skills for the past three years and has also grown his hair long for the role.
According to a unnamed source quoted in the article, the film is a romantic action-musical and its script has been supervised by Bhansali. It is the second instance of Bhansali helping launch star kids in his own productions; eight years ago, he had launched Ranbir Kapoor and Sonam Kapoor in Saawariya (2007), both of whom had also assisted him on Black (2005).
Vinod Khanna, 69, was one of the biggest Hindi film leads in the '70s, appearing in films such as Achanak (1973), Qaid (1975); he also appeared in multi-starrers such as Amar Akbar Anthony (1977) and Muqaddar Ka Sikandar (1978). Two of his sons, Akshaye and Rahul, have acted in a number of films as well.
