The 13th edition of Standard Chartered Mumbai Marathon, which will include India's biggest names in track and field and distance running athletes, will be held on 17 January, 2016.

There will be a marathon, a half marathon, a DHL Corporate Champions and a Senior Citizens’ Run, among the race categories.

The marathon will also include a six-kilometer race called 'Dream Run' for those who are 12 years old and above. It also has a 'Champions With Disability' race where the participant has to run a distance of 1.75 kilometer.

Olympic legend and an American former track and field athlete, Edwin Moses is in Mumbai as the International Event Ambassador for the event. Moses is remembered as one of the most dominant reigns in the world of athletics, for a remarkable nine years, nine months and nine days, where he remained invincible on the track.

Speaking on his association with SCMM 2016, Moses said, “It is great to see such a fantastic response for the marathon. I have never run a marathon and don’t think I ever would. India is currently going through a running bomb, and it is great to see how many people from all ages are now taking up the sport, and are increasingly more concerned about their health and wellness.”

For Moses, India has been the land of spices, the colours, the markets and the food.

“This is not the first time that I have been to India; it is my 5th visit to Mumbai. The stand-outs for me are the spices, the colours, the markets and even things like suddenly spotting an elephant in the markets. I enjoy Indian food, and I tell everyone back home how Indian food is not what we have here in the States.”

“For me it was not about competition, or what time I was running. I had a weekly check-list that I had to complete, so it was less about competing and more about my lifestyle choices. Persistence is a key, and though I was training for many months together for a very short race, consistent practice helped me maintain my records. Today runners need to compete with each other more often. This will help them better their time and their performance," he said.
