In a move to encourage states to promote and embrace films from various genres, the information and broadcasting ministry has decided to introduce a new category at the National Awards and it will be for the 'Most Film-Friendly State/UT'.

Speaking at the inaugural function for the public screening of Indian Panorama-2015 films at Siri Fort Auditorium in Delhi, Sunil Arora, secretary of information and broadcasting said that the award will be conferred for the first time at the 63rd National Film Awards to be in Delhi on 3 May 2016. The statement was issued by the Press Information Bureau on their official website.

Arora also added that a Film Facilitation Office was to be set up at the National Film Development Corporation of India (NFDC) under the supervision of the Ministry of I&B.

"After a three-hour interaction with some 13-14 directors, we have decided that we will start a film facilitation office in our country, housed in NFDC, Delhi, monitored by the government," reported The Times of India. "The idea to have this office is to connect the dots and put people together ... as Shyam Benegal in that meeting put it."

Arora added that the objective of setting up the office was to provide single window clearance to filmmakers and promote India as a filming destination.
