In a big move towards expansion in India, Apple has reportedly filed an application with Department of Industrial Policies and Promotions to open their own branded stores in India. As of now, Apple only has affiliated stores in India. In October, they teamed up with the retail chain Croma to open a format known as store-in-store across India.

DIPP secretary Amitabh Kant confirmed in a report that, "We are examining the proposal we have received from Apple". There is no clarification on how much investment has been made by the company.

Apple had a great 2015 in India on the back of great iPhone and iPad sales. They also crossed $1billion revenue in the country last year for the first time. There was a 44% rise in year-on-year sales.

The company has been active with new launches as well. After launching iPhone 6s an iPhone 6s plus in October they slashed the prices in December to attract more customers. Apple also launched Apple watch and iPad Pro in November and December.
