The driver of a missing taxi hired from Pathankot in Punjab has been found dead, according to an alert issued by the Delhi Police. The white Alto car with the numberplate HP 01D 2440 was hired by three unknown people, the photos of whom were tweeted out by the Delhi police on Friday.
The taxi driver, Vijay Kumar, who hails from Gaggal, Kangada, was found dead on Wednesday at the Kalta Bridge area near Kangra in Himachal Pradesh. A search operation is on.
The Hindu reported that an official vehicle of an Indo-Tibetan Border Police (ITBP) Inspector General in Delhi was stolen from outside his home in Noida yesterday, leading to an alarm being raised.
Meanwhile, in a nationwide crackdown ahead of Republic Day that will be attended by French President Francois Hollande as Chief Guest, the National Investigative Agency (NIA) has arrested several persons and busted a plan to set off simultaneous bombs across the country.
The national capital is on high alert. NDTV reported that at least 14 people have been arrested in an anti-terror operation by the NIA.
"The national capital faces threat until the entire module is busted," a police officer told NDTV.
Four persons, with suspected links to the Islamic state, were picked up from Hyderabad in Telangana, reported Hindu, and others were detained from Rajasthan and Karnataka in overnight raids. Other suspects were apprehended by NIA sleuths from Bengaluru, Mangaluru and Tumkur in Karnataka.
The Maharashtra Anti-Terror Squad arrested some people from the outskirts of Mumbai, according to Times of India. A chemical engineering drop-out is allegedly among those arrested.
The officials also seized explosives from Nafeez of Tolichowki in Hyderabad, the report stated.
