Three female students of SVS Medical College committed suicide on Saturday, accusing the administration of charging excess fees, lack of basic infrastructure, and blaming the college management for their death.
The three girls who were studying naturopathy courses, jumped into a well near the college premises, ANI reported.
In their two-page suicide note, E Saranya and V Priyanka, both 18, and T Monisha, blamed college chairman Vasuki Subramanian for their death, The Indian Express reported.
Accusing the management of "torture," the girls hoped that their suicide would finally force authorities to take action against the chairman.
Students had been protesting for more than a month over the lack of infrastructure, ANI reported.
In their suicide note, the students accused the administration charging “excess fees”, “around Rs 6 lakh”, and never giving the bill, IE reported, but the college lacked proper classes or teachers and there was “nothing to learn”.
“After our suicide, she (Subramanian) will say our character was bad. Please don’t believe her but probe and take action against her,” said the note.
While Subramanian is reportedly absconding, her son Sukhi Verma has been arrested.
