In another case of caste violence in Gujarat, a barber was beaten up by four upper caste men for giving haircuts to Dalits.

Reports say that the four men involved in the case were arrested by the police on Monday.

The Indian Express reported that Govind Chaudhary, Nanji Chaudhary, Rajesh Chaudhary and Vasant Chaudhary -- all from the Umrecha village of the Satlasna taluka -- beat up Jigar, who runs a salon in the village, on Sunday night after he ignored warnings from them of not cutting hair of Dalits.

The incident came to on Monday when Jigar's mother approached the police about the incident.

Ratilal Makwana, a sub-inspector, told The Indian Express, "Jasiben has alleged that about 10 days ago, Jigar was warned by the accused persons that he should not cut hair of Dalit men. But Jigar didn't pay heed to it. The allegation is that Jigar was attacked by the accused just for entertaining Dalits at his shop."

Makwana has also told the newspaper that they have recorded statements from several Dalits in the village and that the village had no history of violence against Dalits.

This incident comes close on the heels of a teenager from the Valmiki community in Ahmedabad's Vithalpur village being thrashed for wearing 'mojaris'.

Upper caste boys had beaten the boy for trying to look like a 'Darbar' which is an upper caste community.
