Amid outrage over yet another lynching in Rajasthan's Alwar last week, a leader of the Rashtriya Swayamsevak Sangh (RSS) has told the media that lynchings in the country would stop as soon as killing of cows stopped.
The comment was made by RSS leader Indresh Kumar on Monday when ANI asked him about the Alwar lyncing.
He said while mob lynchings should be condemned, a complete stop on cow slaughter would bring an end to mob lynching.
Kumar was quoted by ANI saying:
Kisi bhi mob ki hinsa, wo aapke ghar ki, mohalle ki, jaati ki, party ki ho, wo kabhi bhi abhinandaniya nahin ho sakti. Parantu, duniya ke jitne bhi dharm hain, unke kisi ek dharam sthal par bata do ki gaye (cow) ka vadh hota hai: Indresh Kumar, Rashtriya Swayamsevak Sangh. (23.7) pic.twitter.com/Y10QjJBhOQ

(Mob violence can never be welcomed. But, no religion in the world allows cow slaughter on religious land.)
Isaa (Jesus) dharti par gaushala mein aaye, isliye waha mother cow bolte hain. Mecca Madina mein gaye ka vadh apradh maante hain. Kya hum sankalp nahi kar sakte ki dhara, manavta ko is paap se muqt karaein.Agar muqt ho jaaye to aapki samasya(mob lynching) ka hal ho jaayega:I Kumar pic.twitter.com/AyrMKnLznO

(Jesus was born in a cow shed, since they call it 'holy cow'. In Mecca, Medina cow slaughter is considered a crime. Can't we rid humanity from the act of cow slaughter? If we do so, the problem of mob lynching will also stop).
Kumar's comments are cringeworthy at a time when mob lynchings on rumours or suspicions of cow slaughter have become a regular affair in India.
The Indian Express reported that Kumar made the comments after inaugurating the office of the Jharkhand unit of Hindu Jagran Manch in Ranchi.
On Friday, a 31-year-old man, Rakbar Khan, was killed in Alwar on suspicion of cow smuggling.
Khan, along with others, was reportedly transporting two cows to their village when the incident occurred.
