Boston Dynamics, the robotics arm of Alphabet (formerly Google) has released a new video of their bipedal humanoid robot Atlas and it is creeping out a lot of people.

The first version of Atlas was developed in 2013 in association with Defense Advanced Research Projects Agency (DARPA). The intention of building this robot was to carry out search and rescue tasks. But initially it stumbled a lot.

In the video, the robot is seen opening the door and walking out in the wood filled with snow. It stumbles a lot during the course because of the snow but it never falls. Later on, Atlas picks up the boxes 4.5 kgs and places it onto the racks.

Next up was the real challenge. While picking up the boxes, a tester shoves the robot back, pushes the box away and even hits the box to make if fall down from the robot's hands. But each time robot takes correct action to go back to the box and pick it up. The tester even pushes the robot to make it fall on its face. But it gets back up like a human. Scary.

Humanoid robots are the most intriguing lot in the world of robotics. And the technology is slowly reaching the aim of using them for commercial purposes. A lot of people around the world were very impressed with the performance of the robot. Even Elon Musk tweeted the video.

Boston Dynamics is one of the companies Google has acquired after building their robot division. Alphabet aims to launch the robotics division commercially by the year 2020. Even in India, Defence Institute of Advanced Technology (DIAT) is going to open a dedicated robotics lab very soon.
