Mamata Banerjee Ends Three-Day Long Dharna, Calls SC Order 'Positive'

West Bengal Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee, who has been on a “Save India” dharna since Sunday night, called it off on Tuesday.

“This dharna is victory for the Constitution and democracy, so, let us end it today,” she was quoted as saying by ANI.

Calling the Supreme Court judgment as “positive”, she said they will take up the issue in Delhi next week.

The apex court on Tuesday directed Kolkata Police chief Rajeev Kumar to make himself available before the CBI and “faithfully” cooperate with the agency in investigation of cases arising out of the Saradha chit fund scam probe.

It also said no coercive steps, including the arrest of the Kolkata Police chief, will take place during the course of the investigation.

Banerjee on Tuesday also alleged that the BJP is “blackmailing” people by using central agencies like the CBI against them and then getting them into the party fold.

Banerjee said she has “great respect” for the CBI and urged it to speed up its probe into theft of the Nobel medal of Rabindranath Tagore with the same alacrity with which, she alleged, the agency executes the orders of Prime Minister Narendra Modi and BJP national president Amit Shah.

Banerjee had termed her dharna as “satyagraha” against the CBI and the Centre, which she said was attempting a “coup” in Bengal.
