Uttar Pradesh police have filed a charge sheet against 38 people including Bajarang Dal leader Yogesh Raj for violence near Chingravati police post in Bullandshahr district of the state in December last year which had led to the death of Station House Officer Subhod Kumar Singh and a local youth Sumit.
The charge sheet was filed by the Special Investigation Team, constituted by the UP government to probe the case, in the court of the chief judicial magistrate.
“Five people have been charged with the murder of Siyana SHO Subodh Kumar Singh. The other 33 have been charged with rioting, arson, and offenses of similar nature. Accused Prashant Natt, Lokendra, Rahul, David, and Johnny have been charged with the murder of the police officer. It was seen in CCTV footage and multiple social media videos that they had formed a circle to trap the officer and later was shot by Prashant by the licensed revolver. They have also admitted to the crime during interrogation,” Bulandshahr district Superintendent of Police Atul Kumar Srivastava told the Indian Express.
NDTV has reported that Yogesh Raj has been charged with inciting riots and arson and not for the murder of the SHO Singh.
Raj was instrumental in instigating the violence near Chingaravati police post on December 3 after an alleged cow slaughter in a neighboring village Mahav.
