Why should age be a factor if you have the determination to go after what you want? Avinash Chaugule, 50, never let his age, the stress surrounding board exams or his fear of Maths come in the way of his perseverance. A firm believer in 'try, try and try again', Chaugule, an employee in Maharashta chief minister Devendra Fadnavis' office, finally passed his Class 10 exams on his 28th appearance.

According to a report in The Times of India, Chaugule has always struggled with one subject in his Maharashtra Secondary School Certificate (SSC) exams -- mathematics. But this time he scored 38 out of 100 -- where the minimum pass marks is 35.

Chaugule is now elated by his success, especially since the Maharashtra CM has lauded his efforts.

"Students in the classroom would call me uncle and ask why I was appearing for the exam at this age. I would tell them it was for getting a promotion in my job. And people might have mistaken my identity several times, but on knowing the real identity, they always encouraged me," Chaugule told TOI.

So what are his plans for the future?

"If the 7th Pay Commission gets implemented, it will help me immensely," said Chaugule. Under the 7th Pay Commission, 36 lakh Central government employees as well as the pensioners would be eligible for an increased pay scale, according to a report in the Economic Times. It is likely to come into effect from January 1, 2016.
