Heavy Rainfall In Kerala, 3 Districts on Red Alert; CM Says Water Level Low In Idukki Dam

Several parts of Kerala received heavy rainfall on Thursday with the state disaster management authority issuing a red alert for three districts in the morning.

Kerala chief minister Pinarayi Vijayan held a review meeting on the rains as five NDRF teams were deployed in the state. The state has requested for 10 more teams.

Pinarayi said, “As of today, there are 1385 people in relief camps. Wayanad district has the most number of camps- 16. The water-level in Idukki dam is very low and there is no cause for concern. Chief Minister has directed the district collectors to evacuate people from dangerous areas.”

Schools and colleges are shut in 6 districts of the state

Kerala State Disaster Management Authority issued a red alert for Idukki, Malappuram and Kozhikode. Authorities said extremely heavy rainfall in districts with red alert — over 204 mm rainfall in 24 hours.

An orange alert has been issued for Thrissur, Palakkad, Wayanad, Kannur and Kasargod. 

According to The NewsMinute, landslides have been recorded in several parts of Idukki district.
