M Manikandan's Kaaka Muttai (2015), a Tamil language comedy-drama film, won two National Awards last year and was loved by critics as well as audiences.

Now, as per a report by Pune Times, it is being remade in Marathi as Half Ticket, helmed by Samit Kakkad. The film, whose cast features mostly newcomers, is slated for a July release.

Kakkad, who has previously made the Marathi language dance drama Aayna Ka Bayna (2012), told HuffPost India that he hasn't touched "the soul of the film". "It'll have a new dimension to it because of the language and the setting [Mumbai]," he said. "There are a few minor additions I've made to the script. But everything else remains the same."

Manikandan has been credited with the story for Half Ticket; the original music by GV Prakash Kumar has been retained, with vocals in Marathi that have been re-recorded for this film.

Kaaka Muttai, produced by Tamil actor Dhanush, was one of the favourites to be India's entry to the Academy Awards last year. It ended up losing out to Chaitanya Tamhane's multilingual courtroom drama Court, which, unfortunately, could not garner a nomination.
