Police horse Shaktiman, whose leg was amputated in a life-saving surgery after it was brutally attacked during a BJP protest last month in Uttarakhand, died on Wednesday, according to news reports.
After BJP workers attacked the horse by pulling its reins from one side during the protest, it had fallen with its entire weight on its hind quarters.
Following the injury, Shaktiman's hind leg was amputated at a veterinary hospital by a team of doctors, hours after Army doctors opined that one of the hind legs of the horse that was fractured will have to be amputated as the animal might lose its life by the very next day due to spread of gangrene from the wound.
