You may want to think twice before savouring that hot tomato soup served on the Indian Railways.

Passengers travelling on the Duronto Express from Ernakulam to Kolkata filed a complaint on Sunday, stating that the pantry car staff of the train used water from toilet taps to prepare tomato soup.

The train had to be halted for around 15 minutes after the passengers protested and a written complaint was filed with the railway station master at Kozhikode, who promised proper action, India Today reported.

About three months back, the Railways admitted that blankets were washed only every two months.

During the question hour in the Rajya Sabha, Minister of State for Railways Manoj Sinha had said that while bedsheets, bed roll and pillow covers were washed every day, the blankets were washed only every two months.

His reply was to questions raised by various members of the Upper House regarding the quality and hygiene of laundry and linen supplied by the Indian Railways on trains.
