NEW DELHI -- A Supreme Court-appointed committee on Tuesday delivered a damning verdict in an illegal betting case during the Indian Premier League Twenty20 competition involving Gurunath Meiyappan, who is the son-in-law of N Srinivasan, currently the chairman of the International Cricket Council, and Raj Kundra, the co-owner of the Rajasthan Royal team.

Former Chennai Super Kings team official Meiyappan and Kundra have both been suspended for life from participating in any cricket matches by the Supreme Court-appointed Justice Lodha Committee. Both have been declared ineligible for participation in any cricket activities for 5 years.

Meiyappan's betting activities brought the game to disrepute and a bad name to BCCI, IPL and cricket, Lodha said.

The panel also proposed 2-year suspensions for Chennai Super Kings, Rajasthan Royals and India Cements, the company that owns the CSK franchise.

The apex court on January 22 this year held that the betting allegations against Meiyappan and Kundra stands proved. The court had formed a three-member committee of its retired judges, which included Justices Ashok Bhan and R V Raveendran, to determine the punishment for Meiyappan and Kundra.
