Thirteen years ago, Vivek Oberoi gave Hindi moviegoers a memorable debut performance in Ram Gopal Varma's Company (2002). The crime drama, loosely based on the feud between real-life gangsters Dawood Ibrahim and Chhota Rajan, featured Oberoi as gangster Chandrakant Nagre aka Chandu who eventually becomes his boss Malik's (Ajay Devgan) rival. His performance, as well as the film, were lauded critically and eventually won him Filmfare awards for Best Debut as well as Best Actor In A Supporting Role the following year.

Now, according to a Mumbai Mirror report, Oberoi will return to the role that made him a star overnight with Company 2, a sequel that reportedly will not pick up where its predecessor left off. "I am in the process of buying rights," Oberoi told Mirror. "We can't rush things because the original film was iconic, primarily because of the genius that Ram Gopal Varma is."
Oberoi's career started out with him playing a variety of different roles, with films like Saathiya (2002), Yuva (2004), and Masti (2004). However, in the latter half of the '00s, a string of commercial failures caught up with him before he made a comeback as the villainous Kaal in Krrish 3 (2013).
Now, it seems that the actor is ready to embrace the same anti-heroic role that made him a household name more than a decade ago. He told Mirror: "I'm flattered that people still remember a role I shot for 13 years ago. In fact, many of my fans who don't know my name call me Chandu bhai. They want to see me as a rough, rowdy, rugged anti-hero and that's what I am going to give them in Company 2."
Oberoi will also be a producer on the sequel, which is slated to start rolling by the end of the year.
