NEW DELHI -- In another horrifying episode of sexual violence in the national capital, a 19-year-old girl has died after she was stabbed multiple times for resisting harassment by two brothers.
The incident occurred when the class 11 student went to the Anand Parbat market in West Delhi on Thursday evening. She was allegedly harassed by Jaiprakash against whom she had registered a molestation complaint in 2013, and his brother.
"The girl ran from the attackers and entered my building. The men followed her and continued to stab her. They used to harass her a lot," an eyewitness said, IBN Live reported.
The teenager's mother was also injured while trying to rescue the girl, the police said They were both taken to Ram Manohar Lohia hospital, where the girl died from the injuries. Her sister said that neighbours did not come to her rescue.
"She could have been saved if they helped her. She entered a neighbour's house as she was getting beaten. The neighbours whose house she entered, threw her out of their house, saying that they did not want to get involved in the matter. That is why they got to assault her and they ran away after that," she said.
The girl was stabbed 35 times, according to IBN Live, while IANS put the number at 79. The brothers have reportedly been arrested and charged with murder.
