Hyundai Motor India on Tuesday launched 'Creta', a compact sports utility vehicle, in the Indian market where this segment has gained in popularity.
Customers will have the option to go for a variant with a 1.6 litre petrol engine or a 1.4-litre diesel one. The SUV will also have the choice of automatic transmission. The base model is priced at Rs 8.6 lakh, and the top-end is available for Rs 13.6 lakh in New Delhi.
This is Hyundai's first compact SUV in India, following the success of Ford EcoSport, Nissan Terrano and Renault Duster. To make 'Creta' more attractive, Hyundai is offering unlimited warranty for three years, and more affordable spare parts than its competitors. Hyundai also sells 'Santa Fe', its global SUV model in India.
Over 15,000 pre-bookings have been received for this model, said Rakesh Srivastava, senior vice president, sales and marketing at Hyundai India. That beats the 10,000 pre-bookings received for its previous bestseller, the Elite i20 hatchback.
The company is hoping to sell atleast 5,000 'Creta' SUVs every month, which would lift growth to 13-14 percent this fiscal after a relatively slower 7.5 percent last year. The company advanced production date for the 'Creta' by a couple of months so that it could start sales at the beginning of the festive season.
