Filmmaker Rajkumar Hirani, director of super-hit Hindi films such as PK (2014) and 3 Idiots (2009), has been hospitalised after a bike accident. According to The Times Of India, Hirani was trying out a friend's bike in the wee hours of Tuesday morning and skidded while trying to turn around.
He was admitted to Lilavati Hospital in Mumbai's Bandra area around 3 am. While initially it was suspected that he might have suffered internal brain haemorrhage because he started bleeding from his ears, it has now been reported that he has a jaw fracture that "should heal within a few weeks". He underwent surgery on early Tuesday morning as part of his treatment, according to The Indian Express.
As the news broke on Tuesday morning, 'get well soon' wishes (a popular catch-phrase from his 2006 hit Lage Raho Munna Bhai) were expressed by many on Twitter. Hirani is one of Bollywood's most successful filmmakers of all time, having never delivered a flop since he debuted in 2003 with the comedy Munna Bhai MBBS. A couple of people also pointed out how an incident like this is a reminder that it is dangerous to ride a bike without a helmet, although there was no confirmation of whether Hirani had neglected to wear a helmet at the time of writing this report.
