CUTTACK -- With six more deaths, the toll at the Sardar Vallabhbhai Patel Post Graduate Institute of Pediatrics Hospital in Cuttack, also known as the Sishu Bhawan, has risen to 53.
Yesterday, the death toll was 47.
A four-member health ministry team took stock of the situation at Sishu Bhavan on Saturday.
The team, led by Additional Secretary Arun Panda, made a detailed assessment of infrastructural deficiencies. The team will submit a report to the Centre on how to improve facilities.
Odisha Health Minister Atanu Sabyasachi Nayak said the state government is taking all steps to ensure better services in the hospital.
As per a health department report, as many as 3,869 infants have died in OPD, while 2,034 have died in ICU in the last five years from 2010-11 to 2014-15.
