An officer was reportedly killed in an unfortunate firing accident in Rajasthan on Tuesday night. Major Dhruv Yadav was reportedly hit by a splinter from a misfired round or an artillery shell, according to media reports.
"Major Dhruv Yadav died during a training exercise due to an accident in Pokhran yesterday," confirmed defence ministry spokesman Lieutenant Colonel Manish Ojha. "An Inquiry has been ordered," he added.
Now, a post-mortem is being conducted to ascertain the cause of the officer's death.
Formerly an instructor at the Indian Military Academy in Dehradun, Yadav realised that he was hurt only when he was told by his colleagues that he was bleeding from his neck, says an NDTV report.
The major is survived by his wife who is reportedly eight months pregnant.
