Shah Rukh Khan's Selfie is Twitter's Golden Tweet Of The Year

Twitter is celebrating the global rise of India after countless people took to the microblogging site to voice their thoughts on a multitude of topics this year. From the #DelhiElections to the banding together of volunteers for #ChennaiRainsHelp, 2015 was a significant year for Indians on the social media platform.

Twitter has unveiled the global #YearOnTwitter at 2015.twitter.com to look back on the year's most popular retweeted tweets, most influential tweets and popular events as they unfolded during the year on Twitter. While it admitted that each tweet is unique, it has named only one tweet as the Golden Tweet for India in 2015.




This selfie by Shah Rukh Khan with former One Direction band member Zayn Malik at the Asian Awards in London in April 2015 which was retweeted 141,000 times and viewed 18.3 million times!




The Indian superstar has 16.5 million followers. He comes a close second after Bollywood legend Amitabh Bacchan with 18.1 million among India's most followed. Prime Minister Narendra Modi comes third with 16.4 million followers, a huge leap from last year's 4 million. Bollywood stars Aamir Khan and Salman Khan follow close on the heels with 15.5 million and 15 million followers each.
